As the ninth and last child from a Catholic family, Jeff grew up with the expectation and an interest in being very technologically savvy and ambitious. This drove him to be the kid who took apart a broken boombox to simply put it back together. The one who figured out how to get the blinking "12:00" VCR display to cease without unplugging it. This could have driven Jeff to computer science, engineering, or maybe even rocket science. Jeff instead used his amazing skills to the effect of video production.
In 1994 Jeff wanted to start a business, a video production company. This would require a good and memorable name. Opening the dictionary, Jeff flipped through the pages and put his finger down on several unmemorable words that just wouldn't cut it. The finger finally landed on "Impulse"! Jeff's initial reaction was that Video doesn't happen on an impulse. Video must be carefully planned and then slowly prepared for viewing after the fact.
"Impulse Video Productions" just had such a ring to it that eventually stuck. Jeff enhanced his videomaking skills by taking vocational T.V. Production Classes during high School. He quickly learned the in's and out's of a successful video shoot and retained this knowledge going forward. Wanting to continue his education, he went to school at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro on a quest to get a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies. In 1999, while in College, Jeff worked at WFMY in Greensboro North Carolina on the set of several popular shows, where he ran a studio camera. Jeff eventually was promoted and cross trained in the Floor Director position. This then became his area of expertise.
Additionally, Jeff was then able to land an internship with National Geographic in Washington DC. His internship was in the "Crittercam" lab. At that time, the National Geographic Crittercam was a camera is mounted on the back of Marine Animals. Manufactured in-house, the engineers at National Geographic took apart consumer video cameras, and redesigned them to fit in a small water resistant tube that would reduce drag on the animal and automatically detach when the tape ran out. Not only did it make for good TV, but it also collected scientific data that allowed scientists to study animals without human interaction. Jeff's role involved logging videotapes and marketing. After a fantastic experience at National Geographic and considerable work experience at WFMY, Jeff graduated from college and was ready to jump into the technical media business.
Unable to immediately find something, Jeff found a full time job at a Mortgage Company. This eventually became a new career path for Jeff. All this education and experience in technical media needed practice. The public television scene was not the right path. Jeff went back to his original job as a kid and officially registered Impulse Video Productions with Fairfax County on May 1st 2005. While he did not take this on full time, it fared to be a perfect second job. Since the official creation, Jeff has done countless weddings, slideshows and events. In September 2008, IVP moved to Missoula, MT. While telecommuting to his very same Mortgage job, Jeff also shoots video for a variety of clients in the Missoula area.
Update - in September of 2013, Impulse Video Productions has moved to Jackson, WY with service in the Wyoming and Idaho area
